We at GeoMarvel are proud to have partnered with World Food Programme (WFP) in creating a Disaster Management Response System with a custom mobile app to collect data for assisting in disaster response efforts based on our GeoODK software. In addition to the app, a data aggregate system was built to store and visualize the data collected on the mobile app. After the app launched, GeoMarvel staff provided in-country training with WFP’s staff to help them understand and use the system.
The World Food Programme (WFP) provides food security analysis, or Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping (VAM), with the help of a network of 150+ analysts around the world to answer key questions regarding structural food insecurity. WFP provides actionable food security information for each country it works with, and identifies food insecure populations while determining the underlying cause of the food insecurity.
By working closely with national governments, UN partners and NGOs, WFP informs the policies and programmes adopted to fight hunger based on specific circumstances. Security analysts conduct a wide range of food security assessments which are complemented by ongoing monitoring to track changes in people’s food security situations. For areas that are too remote or dangerous to complete face-to-face assessments, mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (mVAM) is used. mVAM uses mobile technology to reach vulnerable populations and track food security trends in real-time while also providing two way communication to give people access to the latest information.
