GeoMarvel recently partnered with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to redesign their Industry Footprint 2.0 application, which gives users the ability to view data about membership, funding, transportation systems, and organizations within the public transportation sector. The app also allows users to search for legislators based on state, showing information about federal and state representatives, APTA membership in the state, transportation funding and grants, all within an ArcGIS web map.
The app features the ability for users to select from a variety of transportation feature layers to overlay on the map. This interactive web map also allows users to see transportation details including Amtrak routes, rail stations, and bus stations throughout the United States.
The Industry Footprint application was built using React, a front-end JavaScript library for building UI components, and the Chart.js charting library for graphing and data visualization. The application has an embedded ArcGIS web map which is configured to dynamically render a large number of data sources, which are stored as feature layers in ArcGIS Online and called into the map using the REST API.
The application also utilizes MobX to manage application state among the various reusable data components in a more efficient manner. Together, the technology stack empowers a variety of stakeholders in the public transportation sector to access dynamic and complex transportation information for public advocacy.
