On Tuesday, March 24th, the world trading market came to a stand still when 1,300ft cargo ship “The Ever Given” (aka Evergreen) found itself run aground in one of the busiest waterways in the world, the Suez Canal. Both the bow and stern of the ship had been firmly dug into the shoreline of the canal. For days, hundreds of cargo ships wait on opposite sides of the canal for their chance to pass through. After hours of intense digging and tugging efforts, it was finally the assistance of a full moon and the rising tides that gave the salvage team that extra bit of support they needed to free the vessel. With the ship now floating, it has been towed to the Great Bitter Lake, where it will be inspected to determine its seaworthiness.
