In October 2023, the GeoMarvel team traveled to New Jersey for our annual internal conference, the GeoMarvel Summit, focused on team building, knowledge-sharing, and strengthening our capabilities to better serve our clients & partners.
In order to accomplish this, many of our own team members hosted comprehensive training sessions in their areas of work and expertise. The presentations ranged from talks on GIS, systems, and development to internal organizational sessions and effective teamwork strategies. While the Summit was heavily focused on learning, we also had the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate our collective accomplishments through the years.
The focus for Summit Day 1 was long form, in-depth knowledge-sharing across our team. We started with a high-level overview of the growth of the business to date, took time to celebrate our team’s many accomplishments, and reviewed major goals and priorities for 2024. Day 1 also featured overviews of our major processes and best practices across different areas of our business, which served as an excellent refresher for long-time team members & provided detailed insight to newer team members. We were even treated to crash courses in UI/UX Design and the feedback process between designers & developers, remote sensing & spatial analytics, and a history of the internet and its relevance to application development today.
For Day 2, we continued sessions in the morning, beginning with an HR & Organizational presentation. During this session, team members were encouraged to openly discuss & provide feedback on various HR-related topics. We also announced the implementation of Esri Learning Plans for all team members in 2024 so that we can continue to strengthen our skill sets, deepen our knowledge, and continue to acquire expertise in areas relevant to our customer’s needs.
Afterwards, the remaining presentations took the form of short talks or “lightning talks” that were more condensed. We covered topics such as map projections & coordinate systems and how they differ as well as raster analysis. After the final lightning talk, we closed out the sessions portion of our Summit with a GeoMarvel Award Ceremony recognizing the excellence within our team, which included both professional and fun awards as voted on by the rest of our team.
After the ceremony, we had the pleasure of being joined by many of our team’s significant others for a team scavenger hunt hosted by United EVENTures. The activity proved to be an exciting and fun-filled team-building exercise! A mix of scouring the resort grounds, physical challenges, and riddles pushed randomized teams to think on their feet and outside the box, all while having a blast and enjoying some friendly competition. Some of our team even got to enjoy some pickleball afterward!
To summarize the event, the GeoMarvel Summit 2023 was truly a remarkable success. We all walked away reenergized, refocused, and eager to further build on our internal collaboration, so we can continue to give our customers our very best. We are already looking forward to next year’s summit with great anticipation. It is through such gatherings that we not only become better professionals but also build lasting bonds within the GeoMarvel family.
