Getting Started with ArcGIS AppStudio

What is ArcGIS AppStudio?

ArcGIS AppStudio is a low-code solution that allows users to create native applications without having to install software on your computer. ArcGIS AppStudio helps creators design user-friendly mobile apps that work on every platform (Android, iOS, Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux). And the best part? The team at Esri has provided you with an array of templates and sample code, so you’re not starting from scratch. Start designing your first AppStudio app by downloading the platform here, for a quick and easy app creation.

Explore before you build. Peruse the plethora of existing AppStudio apps in esri’s showcase gallery. Looking for specific functionality? Check out the esri GitHub page outlining some great AppStudio samples. ArcGIS AppStudio leverages a Qt framework to create apps written in C++ and QML. These technologies are extremely versatile, and can be used across several platforms.

Getting Started With AppsStudio

Welcome to our latest GeoMarvel Live! tutorial series on getting started using ArcGIS AppStudio! Join Kevin Cheryian, an Application Developer here at GeoMarvel, as he walks users through the process of creating your very own AppStudio app.

In Part 1 of this tutorial, Kevin demonstrates some of the basics steps of starting an app. To begin, users must select the desired template/layout that you want your app to look like. Then Kevin discusses the three main components that we see in the app, what we want to change, and how we go about implementing those changes.

In Part 2, we get a little more technical as we dive into the process of editing different components, adding text, styling the text, and performing other actions that allow users to customize the app. Changes that will be made include the header title and color, the number of items and names in the bottom navigation bar. Kevin also demonstrates how to properly wrap and align that text to the appropriate place on the app.

In the ArcGIS AppStudio Part 3, Kevin demonstrates how to add images to the center components of the app, how to edit these images, along with additional edits needed to clean up this portion of the app. Once images and text have been associated together,  the final step is to move those components from the bottom to the top of the page, removing as much background/white space as possible.

Thanks for tuning in! Hopefully you found this demonstration informative and enjoyable, and maybe it will even spark an idea for you to create your very own AppStudio app.
