Esri just released Map Viewer Beta, the upcoming next generation of map viewer. Built with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript 4.x, the new map viewer leverages an intuitive design that’s fast and flexible.
The new Map Viewer Beta offers an intuitive design, with all primary tools located on the left side of the screen, and all refining tools to the right. Simply find your tool of choice and start building your map. There are a variety of familiar tools available to help you change any aspect of your map with the quick click of a button.
Styles
Updates include new map styles. Scroll through various drawing styles for your data, like dot density maps or symbols defined by category and size. Try every style to find the best fit for your data. Styling your maps has never been easier.
Filter
You now have the ability to create a built-in filter for your maps. After clicking the filter button, it’s time to create a new expression. In this example we’ve filtered our daytime population data set to only show daytime populations that are at least 6,167,445, which yields a range of cities across the nation. But we can also adjust this number on the fly with an easy slider. After sliding to adjust for a larger number, we can immediately see the associated change occur in the map.
Configure Attributes
Change attributes quickly with the Configure Attributes tool. Quickly format attribute display names and the number of decimal places to display for attributes like latitude and longitude.
Primary Tools
Here you’ll find some familiar tools including Layers, Basemap, Legend, and the Save option. With the same functionality you’re already used to, Map Viewer Beta offers a new take on the same quality mapping tools.
2020 Roadmap
Esri has given a roadmap of incoming updates and features for Map Viewer. The new year will bring a variety of added features including full layer authoring and mobile device support, and even the ability to create apps directly from Map Viewer.
Map Viewer Beta is designed to inspire and enhance the mapping experience. Hoping for specific functionality that isn’t currently offered? Give Esri your input to help drive the ongoing development of Map Viewer.
