Renewable Energy with GIS

What is Renewable Energy?

Renewable energy, often referred to as clean energy, is energy that is derived from natural sources and is replenished at a higher rate than originally consumed. It is preferable compared to fossil fuels, usually free and widely available with little to no environmental impacts. Wind, solar, hydrogen, and geothermal energy facilities are a few examples of such sources that are constantly being replenished. As the trend of renewable energy continues to grow, a key long-term goal will be to modernize America’s electricity grid – making it smarter, more secure, and better integrated across all regions.

GIS & Renewable Energy

Renewable energy companies all around the world are turning to GIS to help organizations better understand energy potential, streamline operations, and transform data into actionable insight. This will help companies leverage renewable resources through smarter decision-making.

ArcGIS technology is being used to collect and store project data, analyze and assess the data, share and collaborate with your organization, and monitor and anticipate what’s coming next based on that information.

Wind

Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing sources of electricity in the world today. Due to technology advances, policy initiatives, and economic drivers, wind energy is now able to make a cost-competitive contribution to our growing energy needs. GIS is being used to help organizations gather information needed to design, build, and efficiently and safely operate wind energy facilities.

Solar

Solar energy is not only free, but one of the cleanest, most abundant sources of energy that could meet the growing demand for electric power in many countries. These days, solar energy organizations are using GIS to help leverage business opportunities, potential site selections, suggestions for project design and much more! Proving that GIS is a crucial factor in helping to bring your organization’s project to life!

Hydrogen

Hydrogen is a clean alternative to methane, also known as natural gas. It’s the most abundant chemical element, estimated to contribute 75% of the mass of the universe. It can be produced from a variety of resources, such as natural gas, nuclear power, and renewable power like solar and wind. GIS is helping to produce optimal business stragities by modeling infrastructure, demand, market, resource analysis, and much more.

Geothermal

Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy uncovered from the Earth’s core. It comes from heat generated during the original formation of the planet and the radioactive decay of materials. This type of energy is stored in rocks and fluids within the center of the earth. GIS supported technology is being utilized to determine prime locations for implementing geothermal technology, potential markets, and required infrastructure.
