I serve as a Principal Consultant at GeoMarvel, so my role involves many facets of the business, from building lasting and sustainable client relationships to working with the team to define internal strategy and direction. I love working with clients to develop use cases that can be realistically translated into sustainable geospatial technology. You can also expect to see me contributing to some of the technical aspects of the organization. Whether through problem-solving huddles, defining and reviewing data schemas, or creating applications and ETLs, I will be there to support all of my colleagues in whatever ways I am able.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with emphases in Ecology and Spanish from Davidson College, then completed a Master of Science in GIS at Auburn University at Montgomery. I also earned a Master of Liberal Arts in Anthropology & Archaeology due to my credits and field work. My career spans over a decade across industries including safety planning, transportation, defense, space, healthcare, AEC, telecommunications, and more. I’ve managed, led, and trained teams ranging from 1 to 60 people and held various roles, starting as a GIS Technician. These experiences have equipped me with a broad, deep skillset that I look forward to applying at GeoMarvel.
The most interesting job I have had was as a GIS Manager for a large midwestern healthcare system. I got to work under the tutelage of an incredible Director who spent a lot of time and energy showing me strategies for empathetic and effective leadership, while also teaching me how to engage our colleagues from across the company in geospatial initiatives. The use cases we developed were fascinating, but the most interesting (and fulfilling) part was watching how swiftly those colleagues began developing use cases themselves. Seeing my peers learn, deploy, and sustain geospatial technology with direction and leadership from our team was incredible.
I would travel back to China! The food in every region I visited was outstanding, while the people were kind, interesting, engaging, and empathetic. I would love to spend some time in Chongqing, Chengdu, and Shanghai.
I love to see live music, especially if it means supporting a local venue or burgeoning artists. Experiencing new and varied culinary treats gives me immense joy, so I often orient my weekends and travel plans around trying different restaurants. I stay active by rock climbing and doing Pilates, while also practicing stillness through meditation, reading, and writing. Some of my free time each week is also dedicated to games, whether board games, card games, or videogames. I enjoy simple pleasures, like taking my dog out for long walks in our park or grabbing a quiet coffee at my neighborhood cafe. But most importantly, I love hearing that satisfying *click* sound when putting together a new Lego set.
I have an extensive Lego collection. I was a college cheerleader. I have over 30 tattoos. I named my cats after condiments. Both I and my sibling were born exactly on our due dates.
Rugby.
The Shining.
The opportunity to work with such a broad and interesting group of clients! GeoMarvel has done an outstanding job diversifying their client portfolio and I can’t wait to see how geospatial technology is being effectively and sustainably leveraged across all of these organizations.
