Mineral Project Source | A Global Marketplace for Mineral-Exploration and Mining Projects

Mineral Project Source

GeoMarvel recently partnered with Mineral Enterprises to develop Mineral Project Source, a web application and low-cost global marketplace for quality, mineral-exploration, and mining projects. Mineral Project Source is an affordable solution that allows the exploration and mining community a robust, data-rich, platform to promote and seek out available projects.

Shoppers use a custom Esri-powered mapping interface to search for projects and view them alongside worldwide mine, mineral-occurrence, geology, and mining claim datasets. Shoppers can also search for projects using the search tool, based on commodity, location, and deposit type.

Vendors can post unlimited projects containing information about the exploration site such as geology and deposit type, ownership, tenure, desired terms, exploration history, and resource/reserve data, along with report files and site images.

Technology Used

Mineral Project Source was built using React, a front-end JavaScript library that allows the use of reusable components and intuitive UI. The GIS backend is driven through a combination of the ArcGIS API for JavaScript and the ArcGIS REST to handle dynamic data transfer for map interactions, alongside a custom opacity tool to support ease of visibility between data layers. The application also leverages Google Firebase to support authentication, and secured payment processing through Stripe, a popular payment processing provider. To support communication between shoppers and vendors, the application integrates Amazon SES (Simple Email Service)

Data

The application hosts nearly 500 layers, or 18 GB, of worldwide mine, mineral-occurrence, geology, and mining claim datasets with more being added and updated, making it one of the most extensive, publicly available collections of global datasets available to the mineral exploration community.

Worldwide Datasets:

  • Mine
  • Mineral-occurrence
  • Geology
  • Mining Claim

Available mine and mineral occurrence data layers and symbology include: Commodities: Aggregate, Aluminum, Barite (Barium), Base Metals: Largely Cu, Pb, Zn, Mo, Ni, W, Fe, etc., but also includes metals other than precious metals or those listed separately; polymetallic; Beryllium, Boron-Salts-Bromine-Potassium/Lithium, Chromium, Clay, Cobal, Copper, Diamond, Diatomite, Fluorine-Fluorite, Gems: Includes minerals as specimens; sapphire, topaz, opal, agate, beryl, tourmaline, amethyst, Graphite, Gypsum-Anhydrite, Industrial: Includes asbestos, magnesite, mica, feldspar, building stone, marble, ilmenite, heavy mineral sands, wollastonite, sulfur, silica, kyanite, pumice, bauxite, barite, Lithium, Limestone-Dolomite, Nickel, Niobium or Nb, Phosphate, Precious Metals (always red): Gold, silver, platinum-group elements, Rare Earths, Tantalum, Tin, and Uranium.
