Finally ArcGIS Map support for Wappalyzer is here!
One of our favorite development tools is Wappalyzer. Often times when we see a websites/applications we like or when our clients share sites with us and say “I really like this interface”. The first things we do is take a look under the hood with Wappalizer.
Wappalyzer is a cross-platform utility that uncovers the technologies used on websites. It detects content management systems, ecommerce platforms, web frameworks, server software, analytics tools and many more.
Wappalyser fingerprints software using unique patterns found in website source code, response headers, script variables and several other methods.
Wappalyzer is written in JavaScript and can be used on any operating system natively through either Docker or Node.js. It can be run as a stand-alone application or included as a module in a larger application.
It has support for, Google Chrome & Firefox. It also has a command line interface if you want to get weird like us 🙂
We discovered that Mapbox, OSM, Leaflet and Google Maps all had support for Wappalyzer. We were surprised to see that ArcGIS maps was not being supported. Obviously this was not intentional or anyones fault, just seemed really odd that no one thought of add ArcGIS support.
We decided to contribute to the project and add it. Wappalyzer is an open source project hosted on github, just like we did, feel free to contribute more ArcGIS map support or other API’s that may be missing. (https://github.com/AliasIO/Wappalyzer). All you need to know is how to clone the git repository and practice your regular expression.
