Rick Snell

What is your role at GeoMarvel?

As the Chief Operating Officer, I partner with the team to fine-tune our operations and bring the best practices to life in our back-office. My focus is on making sure our systems and processes run smoothly, so the business has the room it needs to grow, evolve, and reach new heights.

Describe your education and professional background.

I have over 25 years of executive experience in financial services, nonprofit and technology sectors, specializing in strategic management, process optimization, and data-driven decision-making. My professional journey includes leading national strategic initiatives at the largest community-based nonprofit in the U.S. and driving operational excellence as Director of Business Operations and Intelligence at an award winning GIS company – underpinned by a degree from Northern Illinois University.

Tell us about the most interesting job you've had?

The most interesting job I’ve had was being a Resident Assistant (RA) during my last two years of college. Sure, the free room and board were a nice perk, but the real value was the crash course in managing just about everything. From listening to homesick residents and navigating the tricky social dynamics of a co-ed floor, to managing the damages budget (a surprisingly creative endeavor), I became a master of “expecting the unexpected.” It was the management thunder-dome: no two days were ever the same, and each taught me a little more about leadership, crisis management, and—perhaps most importantly—how to keep my cool no matter what.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would love to visit Machu Picchu, Puma Punku and Göbeklitepe. I am fascinated by ancient ruins that to this point cannot be explained.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I enjoy spending my free time with my wife and our grown children trying new experiences, micro-breweries, BBQ and road trip vacations. I also really enjoy going to Spartan and Hawkeye football games. Go Green! Go Hawks!

What random facts can you share about yourself?

I’m a twin (we couldn’t look more different!), a first-generation college graduate, and a proud member of the 6 for 6 Club on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Epcot (if you know, you know).

Favorite activity/sport?

College Football – specifically Big Ten Football.

Favorite movie?

Casablanca and the Andor Series.

What excites you about joining the GeoMarvel team?

Excited to be working with an exceptionally talented and award winning team as well as continuing to professionally advance in the GIS/Location Intelligence space!
