ArcGIS Notebooks Part 2 | GIS Analysis

GIS Analysis with ArcGIS Notebooks

In part 2 of our ArcGIS Notebooks video series, Anna walks us through a GIS analysis workflow. Point interpolation allows users to predict values at new locations based on measurements found in a collection of points. Creating a polygon layer of values as guesses, based on the specific point layers. In this example of the Interpolate Points Tool, we will be using the “Daily AQI Value” field, to guess the Air Quality Index throughout the State of Virginia.

To begin we need both the Virginia Ozone and the Virginia State Polygon layers to set the bounds for our interpolation. From here well bring those layers into ArcGIS Notebooks through the use of variables, and Run the interpolate points tool. Both the Interpolate Points (VA Ozone) and field (Daily AQI Values) are required for the system to properly Run.

Additional displayable options include Interpolate_Option (balances speed and precision for the interpolation), Output_Prediction_Error (which determines how accurate the prediction is to being True), Classification_Type (Balance the value with the area available for the interpolation), Number_Classes (10-32), Bounding_Polygon_Layer (instead of using a square interpolated area, it will only calculate inside given polygon layer, aka VA Border), and the last option is Output_Name (the name for the new layer).

Once complete, the newly Virginia Interpolate Layer can now be displayed in Map Viewer.

This has been just one example on how you can use the vast amount of functions and features available in ArcGIS Notebooks for analysis purposes.
